UPCOMING EVENTS!
Third ANNUAL Summer Mental Health Carnival:
Let us Help you find your Couch!
The Mental Health Carnival has a new home! Thank you to our new community partner, Educare Springfield!
Coppedge Consulting, LLC’s mission includes engaging and partnering with the community because that is the most authentic form of togetherness and growth, therefore collaborating with local BIPOC-owned and operated mental health organizations is critical.
Our previous Mental Health Carnivals have been successful. We have been able to bring mental health awareness to the Springfield community in the last two years. Our initiative shines a light on mental health awareness, celebrates those who support individuals on their journey, and financially supported local Black women and men to “find their couch”. With your support this year, we will be able to expand our focus and resources to the Latinx community. Please consider sponsoring this necessary and meaningful initiative.

James D. Coppedge, Coppedge Consulting Co-Founder and VOICES of the Barbershop creator.
Welcome Coppedge Consulting’s Co-Founder and creator of VOICES of the Barber Shop James D. Coppedge to the list of carnival presenters. The first iteration of VOICES of the Barbershop provided free haircuts, guidance, support, and encouragement to young men at the Renaissance School. The second iteration of VOICES of the Barbershop: Our goal is to focus on Black Men’s needs to thrive in their skin and in this world that has systemically tried to destroy all aspects of the Black Man.
James, other mentors and experts in the field will come together to discuss ways to support boys and men deal with everyday occurrences while walking, working, and living while Black. Together the will share their lived experiences and strategize ways to remain safe, and open to listening to each other’s mental health journeys that surround their daily traumatic reality.

2021 Special Performance by
Yogii Barnes, Inspirational Poet
You never know what will happen when Yolanda A. Barnes, better known as Yogii with 2 I's, hits the stage. From poetry that will make you sit on the edge of your seat, to words that will make you stand to your feet. Even giving you a little comedy, singing a soulful song that will have you swooning, or a freestyle not to forget. You can best believe that you will get a show to remember.
Writing since 13, Yogii started penning raps, until one day it turned into something more...after showing it to a friend, it was decided that "This is poetry" and from that point on, poetry was all that was written. Although poetry was not the only creative outlet, this multitalented artist has over time become a photographer, graphic designer, visual merchandiser, author, spoken word artist, motivational speaker, and recording artist. Yogii draws from all of her talents and life experiences when she hits the stage.
Over the years her catalog of work spans from titles like "The Funeral", "Letter to the Abused", "In His Glory", and "Peanutbutter Jelly Time". In 2008, Yogii published her first book and cd "Y aren't you listening?". Her poetry can also be found in "Love letters to my child". Yogii, for two years, weekly co-hosted an open mic show in Fayetteville, NC called "Poetry-N-Motion". Along the way, working on internet radio, and has currently developed a way to workshop with poets thru the medium, which is revolutionary. All while still perfecting the talents of others and using them to promote the shows and poetry events in the community.
Currently, Yogii can be found providing a monthly "Artist Retreat" and providing workshops when she is not on stage performing favorites like "Boiled Peanuts", "Peanutbutter Jelly Time", and "I Pledge Poetry". A new book in the works, and shows booked that will have Yogii on a stage near you in 2021. Poetry, motivational speaking, running workshops, the slam, and features, no matter the capacity, and your special events, Yogii (with 2 I's) is the poet that you have been waiting to hear.

“While everyone-all colors-everyone is affected by stigma-no one wants to say ‘I’m not in control of my mind.’ No one wants to say, ‘The person I love is not in control of [their] mind.’
But people of color really don’t want to say it because we already feel stigmatized by virtue of skin color or eye shape or accent and we don’t want anymore reasons for anyone to say, ‘You’re not good enough.’”
